SPS Co., Ltd. (株式会社エス・ピー・エス) was a company based in Fukushima, Japan, headed by Tomohisa Kono (今野智久). It was established in March 1982 [1] and is mostly remembered for its arcade ports for Sharp's X68000 computer.

According to the SPS article on Japanese Wikipedia, "on December 1, 2005, [SPS] entered into a business alliance with NetVillage Co., Ltd. and effectively transferred its development operations to NVSOFT." The article goes on to say that SPS then shifted its focus to operating and managing web servers. There is no source cited for this information, but clearly former SPS staff worked for NVSOFT [2]; NVSOFT also had an office in Fukushima. [3]

Prior to all of this, some SPS staff joined Sun-Tec. DigiCan was started by former staff in 2004. A Fukushima graphic design company called Kovax sometimes collaborated with SPS; it was run by Koichi Kono [4], possibly a relative. Though the company wasn't started until 1989, there are references to Kovax in SPS games from before then (Re Birth, The Return of Ishtar).

SPS went into bankruptcy in 2021. [5] Tomohisa Kono passed away on October 13. [6] SPS's back catalog was acquired by M2. [7]
