Perfect Entertainment
Perfect Entertainment Limited was a development company in London, England, responsible for the Discworld adventure games based on the Terry Pratchett book series as well as numerous conversions of Psygnosis games from the PlayStation to the Saturn and Windows.
Perfect Entertainment was originally incorporated on 12 August 1985 as Zero Wait Limited. This name appears on The Muncher (Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum), a game developed by Beam Software in Australia. [1] Beam Software later brought in Angela Sutherland to start up a UK branch (hereinafter referred to as Beam UK). [2] Zero Wait Limited was renamed Beam Software Europe Limited on 24 July 1990. Sutherland left and started Teeny Weeny Games (TWG) in 1991. Beam's Gregg Barnett acquired Beam UK. [3] It was renamed Perfect 10 Productions on 29 October 1991. Barnett sold half of the company to Sutherland [4], thereby making Perfect 10 and TWG sister companies. [5] Eventually TWG "merged" with Perfect 10. [6] Perfect 10 was renamed Perfect Entertainment Limited on 7 September 1995.
Perfect Entertainment grew considerably thanks in large part to its deal with Psygnosis. Unfortunately, a legal battle with Psygnosis and Sony over payment led the company to go under in 1999, despite a settlement being reached. [7] What was left of Perfect was folded into TWG [8], which was still an active company, but it also went under in 2000.
Perfect Entertainment had offices in Sheffield and Manchester. [9] The latter was destroyed in the 1996 bombing by the IRA, causing delays in the development of the Saturn version of FIFA 97. No one was in the office at the time. [10]
Perfect Entertainment bought out Australian developer Tantalus [citation needed] and a majority of British developer Graftgold. [11] The original directors of Tantalus bought back that company [citation needed], but Graftgold shut down in 1998 after Perfect stopped payment. (Retro Gamer 176, p. 71)
