Wayne J. Smithson began programming as a teenager out of his bedroom. He wrote several Dragon 32 titles under the name Smithson Computing. (Retro Gamer 186)
Smithson later struck up a relationship with Psygnosis. The influx of work and money allowed him to expand the company from one person; the name was also changed to the more professional-sounding WJS Design. (Retro Gamer 186)
On the advice of his accountant, Smithson switched WJS Design from being a sole trader business to a limited company. In doing so, he also renamed the company to Sunrise Games Ltd. (Retro Gamer 186) (According to records, Sunrise was incorporated on 12 January 1995.)
Sunrise was renamed RGB Tree Ltd on 11 January 2000. Rage acquired the company less than a month later (8 February 2000). [1] RGB Tree then became Rage Leeds, Rage Software's development studio in Leeds, England. In 2001, Rage consolidated it and Rage Sheffield into a single location in Sheffield. [2]
