Micronet Co., Ltd. (株式会社マイクロネット) is a company based in Chuo-ku, Sapporo. Akihiko Murakami (村上晶彦) is the president. [1]

Micronet was established on October 29, 1982, to develop computer games. [2] It shifted to console games in the late 1980s, starting with the Sega Mega Drive. The company is now mostly involved with CG design and 3DCG software development. [3]

Micronet had two subsidiaries: Bignet U.S.A., Inc. was established in San Francisco in July 1990 to distribute Micronet products in the United States. [4] Micronet Software Manila, Inc. was established in April 1992 in the Philippines and was involved in the development of games and multimedia. [5] While both subsidiaries are listed on the Micronet website today [6], neither appears to still be in operation. Bignet U.S.A. was dissolved on March 1, 2021.

On April 7, 1993, Bignet U.S.A., Inc. was renamed Extreme Entertainment Group, Inc. with the intention of expanding into non-Sega platforms such as the 3DO and Super NES. Industry veteran Denny Thorley was brought in to run the company. [7] The effort proved short-lived, however, as assets of Extreme — including games in development — were sold that October to Absolute Entertainment [8], which continued to use the Extreme branding. (As a result, Extreme Entertainment Group, Inc. reverted back to its original name, Bignet U.S.A., Inc.)
