Konami Amusement of America
Konami Amusement of America, Inc. (KAA) was the American coin-op R&D subsidiary of Japanese game maker Konami. It was based in the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove, Illinois [1], and was originally incorporated on January 18, 1995, as Konami Computer Entertainment Chicago, Inc. (KCEC).
KCEC was originally formed to develop consumer and coin-op games in the US specifically for the US market. [2] In 1997 [3], Konami's US consumer development teams were moved from Buffalo Grove to a new studio in Redwood City, California, called Konami Computer Entertainment America (KCEA). [4] [5] According to former Konami of America president Ken Dirnberger, this was done because "we couldn't find enough good game designers and programmers here in the Chicago area to develop quality games in KCEC." [6] Coin-op development teams remained in Buffalo Grove. [7] KCEC was renamed KAA on March 31, 1998. KAA was merged into another company on September 29, 2000. (Illinois records do not specify which company.)
