Bear's Inc. (有限会社ベアーズ) was established in Tokyo in 1983 by Akihito Abe (安部彰人) [1], a former section chief at Data East. [2]

Bear's started out making computer games, but they would eventually tie up with Shouei System—which was in the same office building—developing Famicom/NES games exclusively for them. Abe left in 1987 to start a company in Hokkaido and handed Bear's over to Shouei president Hirotoshi Tokuyama. It is unknown what happened to Bear's as a corporate entity after that [3] [4] [5], but the Bear's team would continue developing games for 2-3 more years.

After the team split up, Shouei System would subcontract development to companies like Copya System and Office Koukan.
