'''Sanritsu Denki Co., Ltd.''' (サンリツ電気株式会社) was a Japanese industrial company established in December 1973. It originally manufactured communications equipment and vending machines before expanding into arcade machines. In 1979, the company began developing its own hardware and software. '''SIMS Co., Ltd.''' (シムス株式会社) was a publisher and developer started on June 12, 1991 [http://www.sims.co.jp/company.html], by former [[Sanritsu]] president Mamoru Shigeta (重田守) with Sega Enterprises. Sega originally owned 67%, and Shigeta owned 31%. [https://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File%3AMdfan_JP_1991-11.pdf&page=99] Most of the first 50 or so employees came from Sanritsu [https://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File%3ABeepMD_JP_1992-04.pdf&page=93], which apparently had nothing to do with this new company. In addition to manufacturing, developing, and publishing its own video games, Sanritsu also developed a number of arcade and home games for Sega. The end result of this relationship was '''SIMS Co., Ltd.''' (シムス株式会社). Basically the spinoff of Sanritsu's game division, it has been said SIMS was originally a joint venture of Sanritsu and Sega [http://review-site.net/dt/index.php/し#.E3.82.B7.E3.83.A0.E3.82.B9.EF.BC.88SIMS.EF.BC.89], but this may not be entirely accurate. After having been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sega, SIMS became independent on June 25, 2004, when president Noboru Machida took over all stock from the veteran game maker. As a Sega subsidiary, SIMS developed games for most Sega platforms as well as some non-Sega platforms including the PlayStation and the WonderSwan, even before its parent company left the hardware business. Starting with the Dreamcast version of ''Sega Bass Fishing'', the Shibuya, Tokyo-based firm found a niche as a maker of fishing games.

SIMS supposedly stands for "Soft development Innovation Multi Success." [http://review-site.net/dt/index.php/し#.E3.82.B7.E3.83.A0.E3.82.B9.EF.BC.88SIMS.EF.BC.89] However, former Working Designs president Victor Ireland has said it is "an acronym for the last names of the company partners." Current SIMS logo.

SIMS Co., Ltd. (シムス株式会社) was a publisher and developer started on June 12, 1991 [1], by former Sanritsu president Mamoru Shigeta (重田守) with Sega Enterprises. Sega originally owned 67%, and Shigeta owned 31%. [2] Most of the first 50 or so employees came from Sanritsu [3], which apparently had nothing to do with this new company. [4]

As a Sega subsidiary, SIMS developed games for most Sega platforms as well as some non-Sega platforms including the PlayStation and the WonderSwan, even before its parent company left the hardware business. Starting with the Dreamcast version of Sega Bass Fishing, the Shibuya, Tokyo-based firm found a niche as a maker of fishing games.

Shigeta, who also served as director of consumer software at Sega [5], was eventually replaced by current president Noboru Machida (町田登) [6], former development director at Sanritsu. On June 25, 2004, Machida acquired the company from Sega. [7]
