Development company near San Diego, California, United States [1], started by Michael Knox and Troy Lyndon in 1989 [2] with $3,000 and a credit card. [3] It eventually grew to be North America's largest game development company. [4] However, in 1994, Sony Imagesoft opened up a studio nearby and lured a number of Park Place employees away. [5]

Originally a Park Place publishing label, Spirit of Discovery became its own corporate entity in 1994 and relocated to Kaneohe, Hawaii. [6]
