Pandora Box (株式会社パンドラボックス) was established in January 1989 and headed by Takeo Iijima (飯島健男), who had previously worked at Koei and helped establish Brain Grey. It initially functioned as the legal entity for Iijima's game design and writing work, and Right Stuff was established in February 1990 as the company's development team consisting of former Glodia staff. Right Stuff was spun off in February 1991 after disagreement between the two companies' management, with Pandora Box subsequently building its own internal development staff. [1]

Much of the development staff left the company around 1999; one group led by Hirohiko Yoshida (吉田博彦) established Acid, while another group led by Katsuhiro Tongu (頓宮勝弘) established Ooparts. Both companies produced consumer titles but are better-known for their PC adult games.

Pandora Box ceased business operations in 2001 following poor sales of the Pandora Max budget game line. [2] The company was succeeded by Shannon, established by Iijima in 2007.
