Brain Grey (株式会社ブレイン・グレイ) was established in 1987 by a group of former Koei staff led by Takeo Iijima (飯島健男), who worked as a planner on several of Koei's historical simulation games. It existed until at least 1992, but appears to have vanished after the release of Genocide for the PC Engine. (Some sources claim Fujicom was the same company after a name change, but this is unconfirmed.)

Iijima left the company in late 1988 to start Pandora Box, and Tetsuro Shima (島哲郎) left a few years later to head Right Stuff; a number of other staff would eventually join each company. Much of the early staff was recruited by NCS to start Winds in 1989, including Koji Hayama (葉山宏治), Koichiro Koabayashi (小林功一郎), and Satoshi Nakai (中井覚).
