Bits Laboratory was formed in 1985 by a group of former freelancers in the game industry. It was first known as Workss, judging by NES Ghostbusters, where the name of the developer was changed to "Bits" between the Japanese and American releases. Some of the main staff have included Motoyuki "Motos" Kanayama, Satoru Miyazaki, Junichi Takao, and Masashi "Masas" Shimizu.

Not to be confused with British developer Bits Studios.
