Atlus Co., Ltd. (株式会社アトラス) was a game company started on April 7, 1986, by a group of one-time Tehkan (later known as Tecmo) employees. [1]

Atlus made its publishing debut in November 1989 with Puzzle Boy (Kwirk overseas) for the Game Boy. In the years to follow, it became a popular publisher in Japan with such franchises as Megami Tensei. Takara acquired the company in 2003, followed in 2006 by Index Holdings, into which Atlus was merged in 2010. [2] The Atlus brand name is still in use, however.

This entry focuses on Atlus's earlier titles published by other companies. During this time, Atlus had a tendency of subcontracting programming or all development. This will be noted below when details are known.
